Now that traveling has opened up in Hawaii following the COVID pandemic, people are flocking to Maui, the most beautiful island in my humble opinion. Maui No Ka Oi!

Why Are The Lines Long?

For one is that it’s summer or the tail end of summer. The waits in line are expected to get shorter as kids return to school from summer. But in general, flights leaving for the mainland usually leave in the early afternoon.

When Is It the Most Busiest?

People are usually posting on social media the photos of these long lines between 12pm and 2pm. But it starts ramping up around 10am and usually fizzles down around 4pm.

When Should I Leave For The Airport?

If you’re leaving in the afternoon, give yourself a solid 3 hours. Be aware of where you are staying on the island because if there is a wreck or a fire, you are screwed. Something like that can delay your way to the airport by 30 minutes to a few hours. You can check if there are any traffic alerts here.

Summary

Leaving Maui is the absolute worst. You gotta go back to work and you are gonna leave your beautiful AirBNB or Resort. No more beautiful beaches till forever. But you gotta make your flight home so make sure you give yourself a solid 3 hours if you are traveling mid day.
